Officers track down armed robbery suspect
Officers and investigators with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office identified and located a man following an armed robbery at a convenience store in Mary Esther yesterday afternoon.
David Michael Stephens, 51, of no known address, was taken into custody yesterday after a brief pursuit and charged with armed robbery and other offences.
Officers responded to the All American Quick Stop convenience store at 100 West Miracle Strip Parkway around 12:45 a.m. yesterday after the clerk reported a man entered the store and demanded money while holding a knife to the victim’s throat. The suspect took an unknown amount of money from the cash register and hurriedly left the store.
An investigation revealed security video footage of the suspect’s red 1999 Dodge Ram, with one male occupant in the driver’s seat who matched the suspect’s description provided by the victim. Officers located the suspect’s vehicle in the area of Shirley Drive and Marler Street in Fort Walton around 4 p.m. and when confronted by officers, Stephens fled on foot but was quickly apprehended.
